Are Gutters Necessary or Optional? Here Are the Facts

There are many instances when a gutter system is necessary for protecting your home’s structural integrity. “Better Safe Than Sorry” is a popular life motto for a reason; and when it comes to the safety of your home, it’s an incredibly meaningful motto to hold true. Gutter systems are the unsung heroes of roofing and in the event of a serious storm, may end up saving your roof from caving in. Your home’s ability to channel away rainwater is vital for keeping its foundation strong and sturdy throughout storm season. Here at The RHINO, we want to help you ensure your home is safe for the people in it, for the long run. Listed below are some common ways to tell if your home would benefit from having a gutter system installed.

Times When a Gutter System Is Necessary:

  • Upward-Sloping Surrounding Landscape –

When your home is at the bottom of a slope on at least one side, water will pool along the foundation both above and below ground. Using gutters on the side of the home will allow you to redirect the water towards a downward sloping side.

  • Lack of Protective Barriers –

If your home isn’t surrounded by concrete such as sidewalks, driveway, or patio; your home may remain vulnerable to flooding. By using gutters with drainpipes and a ground-based gutter line, you can redirect water quickly away from your home.

  • Roof with No Overhang –

Roofs that remain close to the home (without an overhang) permit water to pour from the roof’s edge to the surrounding ground (as close as a foot to the foundation). This can prove quite problematic, as it can result in erosion of the soil around your house and for trenches to form.

  • Live In an Area That Experiences Heavy Rainfall –

If you live in an area that is subjected to heavy amounts of annual rainfall, your house truly needs the extra support that a gutter system provides. Downspouts will work to carry fast-moving water away from your home’s foundation (and possibly save you from getting drenched in a waterfall of rainwater pouring off the edge of your roof).

At The Rhino, we are dedicated to ensuring your building’s safety by implementing a safe and secure gutter system, without any hassles or difficulties. Call us today at 813-590-6047 to make sure your gutters are prepared for anything!
